Introduction
📌 This tutorial will show you how to use Magnific.ai ’s new Relight feature to transform your phone selfies into professional portraits, as well as how to create e-commerce product images.
Overview of basic parameters
Style Transfer
Style Transfer is a style transfer function. For example, if you want to convert a selfie into a clay style, you can use this function. For detailed tutorials, please refer to: Magnific Transfer Style Super Detailed Tutorial
Relight
The Relight feature allows you to move the light environment and position in one of three ways without changing the image style:
- Text Prompt
- Image Reference
- Light Map
For example, if you only want to change the lighting of a photograph, rather than convert it into a comic book style, select the Relight function.
When using the Relight feature, you can choose whether to change the background. Here is an example:
This selfie-to-AI photo was converted using the middle picture as the light source reference, and “Change Background” was checked. Light transfer strength controls the intensity of light transfer. The smaller the value, the smaller the change in the light source environment of the original picture; the larger the value, the closer it is to the light source environment of the reference picture.
Style settings
Style is the style of the image. Generally, the default Standard is selected. Test according to specific needs. For example, for portraits, you can use the “Darker but realistic” style; for the “fresh and bright Japanese photography” style, you can use “Brighter”.
Advanced settings provides more parameter adjustments, such as:
- Whites, Blacks, Brightness, Contrast, Saturation
These parameters are similar to the basic exposure parameters in Lightroom or Photoshop.
Magnific + 3D to create comic backgrounds
It is recommended to use TripoAI to create comic backgrounds. It can quickly generate 3D models through text prompt or single image.
For example, if you need castle footage from different angles, you can use TripoAI to generate a 3D model, and then rotate, zoom in, zoom out, and take screenshots in the 3D preview window.
After taking a screenshot, use Magnific Upscale to increase the image pixel, detail, and quality, and then use Relight to generate a consistent background image. Here is a simple example:
Advanced Settings
In the Advanced settings, check Fixed Generation to ensure that the same parameters produce the same results. Light transfer A and B control the light intensity.
Magnific selfie-to-photo case teardown
After explaining the parameters, let’s talk about how we achieve high-precision reproduction in portrait photography and product photography cases?
In fact, during the experiment, I found that if the Light transfer strength value is too low (less than 30%), the effects of atmosphere and light source migration may not be in place;
On the contrary, if the value is too high, it will accidentally affect the details of the face/e-commerce product. How to have the best of both worlds? My solution is Magnific + PS.
The whole process is very simple. Even if you have never used PS, you can understand it at a glance. Read on 👇
Portrait Photography Case
step
- Select an AI-generated portrait on Catjourney as an example.
2. Find pictures you like on RED, INS or Catjourney as light source references.
(Image used in this tutorial with permission from the photographer)
Magnific Relight parameters are as follows:
- Light transfer strength: 85%
- Uncheck Interpolate from original
- Check Change background
- Style: Clean
- Advanced Settings: Whites: 55%, Blacks: 45%, Brightness: 55%, Contrast: 48%, Saturation: 52%, Engine: Real, Light transfer A: Automatic, Light transfer B: Automatic
- The following result is obtained:
If the facial features are inconsistent with the original image, you can use PS to adjust them. The specific steps are as follows:
- Use the Pen tool to create a selection on the original image, press Cmd + Enter to create a crisscross pattern, and then press Cmd + J to copy the selection.
2. Use PS’s Neural Filters, select the Magnific picture as the reference layer, and adjust the reference intensity and other parameters.
3. If you are not satisfied with the effect of the light blending on the face, you can also click the Magnific layer with your mouse and press Cmd + J to cut out a layer with the same selection. Put it on top of all layers, and then select a suitable layer overlay mode. Here, you don’t need to understand the principle of each overlay mode. Just hover your mouse over it like the demonstration in the picture below to see which overlay effect is most satisfactory. After selecting, turn off/on the small eye button on the left side of the layer for comparison.
I’m not going to do this step in this case, because I think step 3 already looks pretty good, but you may need to use this step later when we get to Trozk’s case, especially for the illuminated display in Sspai’s case.
For more detailed steps, please refer to: Detailed Tutorial
- Now let’s solve the problem of the edges of the cutout not blending. In fact, there are countless solutions to this problem, but I think with AI, the simplest way is to select a very narrow edge selection and then use PS generative fill. The advantages of this method are: the effect is very good, the learning cost is low, so that novices can get started.
- First, we use the Pen Tool to draw a circle along the inside of the edge (just click quickly, don’t worry about the precision).
- Then, we use Cmd + Enter to create a selection (get the ant line).
- Click the Select menu on the window → Save Selection → Name it contract.
- Next, we click the Select menu → Expand Selection → 15px (depending on your specific situation)
- Select → Load Selection → Subtract from Selection → This will give you a circular area. This is equivalent to subtracting the small area from the large area, so you get a circular area.
- If the size is not suitable, you can expand or reduce the range based on this circle area.
- Use AI Generative Fill to complete.
- Here’s a little tip. In fact, mobile photo editing software has become a daily need for the public. So you can even use software such as Hypic to modify the jawline and other parts of the face for better results!
- In the next product case, you can also add special effects such as glow in the special effects section.
- Or, if you are a professional, then I don’t need to say more. Just use the shortcut keys Cmd + Shift + A in PS to open Camera Raw for further color adjustment or Cmd + Shift + X to open the Liquify tool.
- If you don’t know how to adjust colors, I strongly recommend that you study the basic operations of simply adjusting the hue, saturation, and brightness, which will help you restore colors better.
- For example, in this case, I simply adjusted the exposure and brightness of the green color of the photo.
4. Product Photography Examples
step
- Prepare the original image and find the atmospheric light reference image you like on Catjourney.
2. Use Magnific Relight to generate the effect with the following parameters:
- Light transfer strength 100%
- Style: Clean
3. Use PS for post-production adjustments. For specific steps, please refer to the previous portrait photography section.
